Biggio, Bagwell to learn today if they are headed to Cooperstown
Baseball’s Hall of Fame will announce the members of the Class of 2013 this afternoon at 1 o’clock. Astros Craig Biggio, Jeff Bagwell and Roger Clemens are all on the ballot. Hall of Famer Milo Hamilton told KTRH he is keeping his fingers crossed for Biggio.
“I think we’re all hoping. I think a lot of things point to the fact that he could make it. Same club his whole career and 3,000 hits. There are a lot of plusses there,” Hamilton said.
Another reason Hamilton thinks Biggio should make it is because of his versatility. He started his career as a catcher and went on to play second base and in the outfield.
“He was always there to do whatever the club needed, and that’s pretty positive,” Hamilton stated.
A player needs 75% of the vote in order to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. It’s a level that Bagwell has yet to reach in his time on the ballot. Hamilton is hoping he gets closer.
“I think Bagwell is going to bounce up. I think it’s an outside shot that he could bounce high enough to make it with Biggio. That would be a dream come true for this franchise and this city,” Hamilton explained.
Hamilton is also hoping that as a Hall of Famer, it would mean a lot to him to welcome Biggio or Bagwell into Cooperstown later this summer.
Hamilton said, “That would be terrific. I’m sure hoping that if it happens that the club takes some of us there. I’d be thrilled to be a part of that and go and see one or both of them go in.”
The 2013 class of the Hall of Fame will be welcomed into Cooperstown officially on July 28th.
