Team can clinch home field advantage by beating Colts Sunday

The 12-3 Houston Texans made things harder for themselves by losing to the Minnesota Vikings last Sunday, but if they beat the Indianapolis Colts and Andrew Luck on Sunday at Indianapolis, they will play all of their playoff games at home. Defensive lineman J.J. Watt says the team is in a must win situation.

“If we win this game we get a first round bye. We’re focused. We played bad last week. We want to rectify that,” Watt said.

The Texans beat the Colts at Reliant Stadium two weeks ago 29-17. Offensive Lineman Duane Brown is confident his club can do it again.

“The fact that we still control our destiny as far as getting a first round bye and home field advantage is a great position to be in. We just have to take advantage of it. I think everyone around here has the sense of urgency.”

Former Houston Oilers coach Bum Phillips knows a thing or two about taking a Houston team to the playoffs. Phillips was in charge during the ‘Love Ya Blue’ days. Phillips still lives in Texas and has been a big booster for the current Texans. Despite losing last week Phillips told KTRH he's confident in this club.

“I believe they just have to play the way they’ve been playing,” Phillips said. “They’ve got to win. I believe this team is better than ours was.”

Phillips, whose son Wade is Houston’s defensive coordinator thinks it would be a big help in the playoffs if the Texans get to play at Reliant Stadium.

“It makes a big difference. I believe that anytime you play at home you have a big advantage, especially in Houston.

Kickoff on Sunday is at Noon. The Colts, who are 9-6 and have already clinched a playoff spot, will have emotion on their side. After missing three months for leukemia treatments Chuck Pagano returns to the sidelines for Indianapolis.
