Obama Nominates Kerry As Secretary Of State

Clinton to step down next month

President Obama will formally nominate veteran Senator John Kerry as Secretary of State. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton plans to step down next month.

Kerry, a Massachusetts Democrat, is the longtime chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Kerry is a decorated Vietnam War veteran and was the 2004 Democratic presidential nominee.

Kerry lost the election to President George W. Bush. The nomination is expected to be announced this afternoon.
