$200,000 grant will fund study of how cells age
Living 150 years is sort of a Holy Grail for genetics researchers. Baylor College of Medicine says a $200,000 grant will help study how and why we age.
Dr. Ergun Sahin will study aging at the molecular level.
"We don't really know whether we can extend life to 150 years or not; I think that is an open question."
Dr. Sahin says some believe manipulating genes can stop the aging process. But he says others think you only have so many years.
"Aging is genetically determined and that there is a maximum amount of years we just can live."
Dr. Sahin says they'll try to manipulate molecules to prevent cells from aging.
