Aggies quarterback is the first freshman to win the award
Johnny Manziel, the freshman phenom who led Texas A&M to their best record in 14 years – and an upset win over then-top ranked Alabama – wins the Heisman Trophy.

In the 78 year history of the award, no freshman has ever won it. Manziel got 474 first place votes. Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o finished second (321 votes) and Kansas State quarterback Collin Klein was third in the voting (60). In a Heisman race with two nontraditional candidates, Manziel broke through the class barrier and kept Te'o from becoming the first purely defensive player to win the award.

Manziel will face his next challenge when the Aggies meet the Oklahoma Sooners in the Cotton Bowl on January 4th.
