Student was detained by police for threatening himself
A North Shore High School student has been transported to the hospital after shooting himself in the back of a police car.
Galena Park ISD spokesman Jonathan Frey says the student was detained by school constables because he had indicated to a friend that he wanted to hurt himself. He was taken into custody for his own protection and was being transported to a care facility when he retrieved a hidden gun and shot himself in the back of the head.
Spokesman Frey says school is continuing today, but parents have been told that if they want they can take their students home. Frey says counselors are on hand at the school if any students need to talk with someone.
So far there is now word on the student's condition at the hospital.
