Retro is in, but overused
Retro appears to be the latest trend in baby names. So much so that Lacey Moler with Austin-based BellyBallot.com says names like Aiden and Sophia -- which again topped this year's list -- are being overused.
"People are trying to create that cool factor and make their kid the next Tiger Woods," Moler tells KTRH News. "But everyone is doing it, so these kids are growing up each having these very individualized names that are not really going to set them apart."
Moler's site allows real-time reaction from friends and family to potential baby names. Among those receiving high marks are Savannah, Ava, Michael, Noah and Owen.
Throwback names such as Pearl and Stella also are gaining in popularity.
"People are doing it not only to commemorate their grandparents, but also because those are the names that are coming back," she says. "All of the last generation, Jennifer and Ashley, we're not seeing any of those kinds of names."
Emma and Zoe also appear to have 'bottomed out.'
