Coin possibly worth $1,500
The red kettles of the Salvation Army are out across Houston and already a gold coin has been dropped in.
Major Chris Flanagan with the Salavation Army Greater Houston Area Command says the anonymous giver has been donating the coins for several years. The coins are always wrapped in a note that says, "A child is born, Jesus."
Last year the 1 oz. gold coin was appraised at $1,500. Major Flanagan says they are a little behind this year but still have the goal of raising $1.4 million. The Red Kettle Campaign is the largest and oldest charitable fundraiser of its kind in the U.S.
