Experts cite lack of airline competition

Bad news for Houston travelers: Bush Intercontinental tops a list of the most expensive airports in the country.

Sean Delanty of letsflycheaper.com says there are lots of possible reasons.

"Could be airport landing fees; it could be operational costs at the time; it could be fuel."

But Online Travel Review Editor Jared Blank says the biggest reason is a lack of airline competition at Bush.

"Southwest doesn't fly everywhere that United flies but at least you've got an alternative for a bunch of destinations."

Blank says that's not the case in cities like Cincinnati where fliers are trapped with one major carrier at one airport.

Both say before you fly anywhere with United see if Southwest has a cheaper flight out of Hobby.
