... but the rivalry is gone

Students at Texas A&M held their 10th annual Bonfire last night; the unofficial event replaced the school-sponsored Bonfire after 12 students were killed in a 1999 collapse.

The tradition has been a precursor to the annual rivalry game with Texas, but since the Aggies’ move to the SEC, the two no longer have one another on the schedule.

There has been talk of reviving the matchup at the Cotton Bowl.

This year’s Bonfire was held in advance of the Aggies’ conference finale against the University of Missouri.  Kickoff is scheduled for 6pm.
