Annual Parade, Celebration Sunday

Downtown Houston will be abuzz on Sunday when the city "Salutes American Heroes" with it's 15th annual Veterans Day parade and celebration.

Buddy Grantham at the city's VA office hopes free parking in the theater district and over 100 parade entrants will help draw a big crowd this year.

"The kids from the high schools, the bands, the junior ROTC, veterans of all eras, active duty vets, we've got lots of flags, horses, cars and military vehicles," says Grantham.

Festivities begin at 10 am Sunday with a veterans job and health fair.

"We've got a wide variety of area employers, but also some benefit services from the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Texas Veterans Commission and other groups," he says.  "With the health fair, the VA Medical Center will be there with Walgreens helping our veterans."

At 11 am, a moment of silence will mark the World War I signing of the Armistice just before the parade winds through downtown.
