Double-check your polling location

Aside from the race for president and U.S. Senate seat in Texas, Harris County voters also will decide nine seats in Congress, who sits on the state legislature, several bond proposals and METRO's funding formula.

That's not including the race for District Attorney, Sheriff, Constables, school boards and all the district judges.

On top of all that, Harris County Clerk Stan Stanart says many will cast a ballot at a new polling site.

"Redistricting has caused about 20% of the people who would normally vote at one location, to vote at a new location," Stanart tells KTRH News.

That's why he says the county clerk’s voter website is so important.

"You can find your own personal ballot, mark it up and take it into the voting booth with you," says Stanart.  "Of course all you need is your voter registration card, and you can use your driver's license or one of the other acceptable forms."

Then there are the issues, Baytown, League City and Houston have several including the school district's bond proposal to build new high schools, the community college and City of Houston's massive bond proposal to shore up police, fire, libraries and parks.

"Some of these buildings need lots of repairs, the parks need repairs, and of course we need to demolish a lot of these big abandoned apartment complexes," says Sue Davis is with the Vote for Houston's Future campaign.

"Although the city has many, many, many things it needs to do," says Davis, “We want the pay-as-you-go basis as much as possible, to not require a tax hike."
