Burger chain gives credit for attributes
A Dallas area burger chain is offering discounts for "best attribute" and telling critics if you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen.
This all started with a recent Reddit post showing a picture of a receipt from Twisted Root Burger Company. The young woman was charged for a veggie bowl, fried pickles and a drink, but also given one-cent discounts from the cashier for "Best Butt" and "Best Looking."
High-profile feminist lawyer Gloria Allred calls it offensive.
'"What's next? Are they going then be evaluating a customer's breast size or shape? Are they going to evaluate a male's genital areas?" she asks.
Allred questions this type of business practice, adding not everyone will find these discounts amusing.
"They should not be suggesting or encouraging their employees to engage in this kind of look-see at their customers' butts," Allred told KTRH News.
Twisted Root proprietor Jason Boso insists it’s all in fun, adding they give discounts for "Best Smile,' "Best Haircut" and do other things as well.
"We're an irreverent restaurant, there's always a little bit of negative feedback," says Boso. "One of my partners is a black gentleman and he will yell out in the restaurant sometimes like the movie Jerry McGuire 'I love black people' which he's allowed to."
Boso admits some people do complain about the discounts, but it's typically more about the amount than anything else.
"They're never totally offended, they ask 'Shouldn't I get 20 cents off?' and we just say hey that's all we got," he says.
We reached out the young lady who posted the receipt, her friend says she was flattered by it, even writing on her Facebook page "Oh twisted root cashier, stop making me blush."
