Signs point to Gov. Perry seeking another term
Governor Rick Perry might be gearing up for another term. He has been raising money ($1.9 million) since dropping out of the Presidential race in January. Bryan Preston of Pajamas Media says that sends a clear signal to him.
Gov. Rick Perry
“It tells us that he’s at least thinking about running for Governor of Texas again,” Preston said.
So how has Perry's failed run for the White House affected his support here in Texas?
“It sort of took off the veneer of invincibility for him. It showed everyone that he was human and could lose a race.”
Other analysts agree with Preston. Harvey Kronberg of the Quorum Report told KTRH that, “Virtually everybody he endorsed in the GOP runoff lost. So, he does not bring the same credentials to the table that he did a year ago.”
Preston also thinks that Perry might face a challenge from more than one Republican in the 2014 race.
Preston said, “There’s going to be a lot of jockeying. There is going to be a lot of moving around. I think we just don’t know the answer to that question yet.
Attny. Gen. Greg Abbott
One of the names that comes coming up on the Republican side as a possible challenger is Attorney General Greg Abbott. Will Abbott make a run against his good friend, Governor Perry?
“I remain persuaded that General Abbott is in the 2014 Governor’s race until he says he’s not,” Kronberg said.
Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson
Other Republicans that could consider making a run are Lt. Governor David Dewhurst and Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson.
