The Mars rover takes on its next task
The NASA rover Curiosity will test one of its tools today when it uses a laser to burn a hole in a nearby Martian rock. The rover’s mission is to determine whether conditions were favorable on the Red Planet to support microbial life.

Curiosity landed August 5th and has been undergoing systems checks before starting the real work of its mission. The vehicle will move around in the crater where it landed before heading to other terrains in about a month.
