Houston Still Has More Than Chicago

When it comes to homelessness, there's good and bad news in Houston. We've seen a decrease since last year, but we also have more homeless than Chicago. There has been about a four percent decrease since last year, but we currently have about eight

Thousand people living on the streets of Houston.

Houston’s climate is a large draw for many homeless persons. But, being homeless is not the same as panhandling. Councilman Mike Sullivan says, “ We have a law against it. Its illegal to stand in the streets and beg for money. “

However, the enforcement of panhandling laws in not easy. A new ordinance also limits who can serve meals to homeless persons.

Cities are required to give a yearly count of homeless persons.
