Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico

There's a new space race for the future of the space industry and the contestants are Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico. Naturally, Texas lawmakers favor the Lone Star State as the location for private contractors like Space X.

Sugar Land Congressman Pete Olson says Johnson Space Center gives Texas the advantage.

"Every business wants to be close to its biggest customer -- that is the Johnson Space Center, for commercial crew missions."

Congressman Olson says JSC will remain Mission Control for space travel for at least the next eight years.

The Governor's Lucy Nashed says Texas will win because the state is more business friendly.

"The governor believes that having that competition not only makes each state better but it makes our nation as a whole better because we're all working that much harder to attract employers and create jobs."

Many believe launching from Brownsville is the future of space travel.
