Friends gathered in a San Antonio church on Saturday to remember the aspiring sportscaster known as "Jessi Red," one of the 12 people killed in the Colorado movie theater shooting rampage.
Jessica Ghawi, 24, who described herself as a "red-haired Texas spitfire," grew up in San Antonio. She worked as an intern at television station KABB, where she was known professionally as Jessica Redfield.
She moved to Denver last year to pursue a career in sports casting. She worked for the Colorado Avalanche hockey team and a sports website.
The following is both her demo tape and a tribute to Jessica’s aspirations to be a sports journalist.
"Jessi was one of those girls who was bigger than life, full of energy," said Pastor Robert Emmitt, who had baptized Ghawi in the same Community Bible Church sanctuary where the service was held.
Her mother, Sandy Phillips, said, "She was a bolt of lightning. You knew that she was in the room because of the burst of energy."
