A Houston city councilwoman is in hot water over allegations she deducted hours from staffers' time cards and spent lavishly on a trip to Korea.
Rice political science professor Bob Stein says if the time card allegation is true, voters in District A may agree with Helena Brown's motive.
"Her motivation was to reduce the cost of her staff operations; keep people under the 40 hours so that they wouldn't be eligible for and use health benefits."
Fellow Rice Professor Mark Jones says the expensive plane fare to Korea seems to suggest hypocrisy.
"Because of her outspoken position on many issues that's magnified the impact of these missteps."
But neither professor believes Brown will face charges. They believe it'll be left to voters to decide next year.
Councilwoman Brown did not return KTRH's call seeking comment.
