Two Fatal Wrong Way Crashes in Two Days on I-45

Three people were killed in the latest wrong way crash on Interstate 45. Troopers say a drunk driver collided head-on with another vehicle while driving north in the southbound lanes in The Woodlands Sunday morning.

Troopers said Edward Blackwell, who was driving a Chevrolet Malibu, entered the freeway just north of Woodlands Parkway going north in the southbound lanes.

Troopers said the 43-year-old Blackwell, crashed into a Pontiac G6, killing the driver and passenger in the Pontiac. The male passenger in Blackwell's car was also killed.

DPS Troopers identified the drive killed as Anis Atkins of the Dallas Fort Worth area. Atkins would have turned 26-years-old this Friday.

Blackwell was taken to the intensive car unit of Memorial Hermann Hospital. Investigators said he will face three counts of intoxication manslaughter if he survives his injuries.

Just Friday, two teens were killed on the I-45 near Highway 242 in a wrong way crash. Deputies charged Nicole Nadra Baukus with intoxication manslaughter and assault.

Despite similarities in the two fatal crashes, Troopers said the only common denominator is alcohol.
