Both candidates for U.S. Senate say they’re open to the idea.

Lt. Governor David Dewhurst's campaign spokesman Matt Hirsch says they're up for the idea as both candidates work to court the Latino vote in Texas.

"Our campaign did not propose the idea for a debate in Spanish on Univision but we are interested in it," says Hirsch.

And political insider Chris Begala doesn't see any harm in the idea.

"Who cares, why not go ahead we have a substantial amount of people in this state that speak Spanish," says Begala.

Dewhurst is fluent in Spanish, but Cruz says he grew up speaking a mix of English and Spanish.  Both candidates have committed to engaging in at least five debates before July.
