Convict Mistakenly Released From Virginia Prison Found in Houston

Houston law enforcement captured a convicted bank robber mistakenly released last month from a jail in Virginia.

On Tuesday, the U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Violent Offenders and Fugitive Task Force arrested 31-year-old Carter Tillery at a west Houston apartment where he had been staying.

Tillery was serving a 30-year prison sentence on May 17th when he was mistakenly walked out of a state jail in east Virginia. He was not scheduled for release until September 2036.

The Gulf Coast task force tracked down Tillery to an apartment complex on Hayes near Westheimer. Tillery was taken into custody and transferred to the federal detention center in Houston. He will eventually go before a federal judge in Houston.

The investigation into Tillery’s release from te Vierginia jail is continuing.
