What to do in the event of a hurricane.

In the event of a Hurricane, faced with major inland flooding Francisco Sanchez with the Harris County Office of Emergency Management says the county would evacuate in stages.

"Staggered evacuations are important to making sure the evacuation process is as smooth as possible so letting folks that live in a surge zone get out first is critically important," says Sanchez.

Sanchez says if word is needed they word out multiple ways like the media and an email alert system.

And one of the areas that could be most impacted by a major hurricane would be that of the city of Pearland, and Sparkle Anderson with the city says they're keeping their residents on their toes about this time of year.

"It is a growing community and that is all of the reason why we want our residents to be prepared," says Anderson.

Anderson also notes that it’s also important never to forget your pets in case of an emergency evacuation.
