Experts weigh in on tips to combat a home invasion.
The best type way to protect your home would be to own a fire arm, according to Jeremy Alcede owner of Tactical Firearms in Katy, who says you should keep your weapon 3 steps away from your bed in case you hear someone break into your home and then.
"You shoot your bedroom window out. You do not know room clearing techniques, do not go out and look for the bad guy just have him come to you," says Alcede.

Alcede says that by shooting out your bedroom window you spook the crook and also alert your neighbors to call the police. But before it gets to that point Allen Young with ArmorConcepts says you should try to fortify your home by reinforcing doors and windows.
"I.E. an alarm system is great but an alarm system works only after somebody has already broken into your house and police response time is generally about 20 minutes," says Young.
Young says it shouldn't take more than 100 dollars to do some basic things to make your home more secure.
