County attorney beaten in her own home.

County Attorney Linda Geffin was beaten senseless by an unidentified man while she slept in her home one afternoon, her attacker left her skull cracked, her eye blackened and massive bruises on her body.

Geffin has been cracking down on human trafficking rings, and Precinct 4 Constable Ron Hickman believes the assault on her may be related to her work.

"The kind of activities that you’re seeing are large scale financial operations, the businesses that use women for these trafficking purposes are multi million dollar businesses," says Hickman.

And Kellie Armstrong who runs a Freedom Place, a shelter for human trafficking victims agrees.

"Absolutely, you're taking away their lively hood and interfering with their business," says Armstrong.

In Houston it’s estimated there are literally hundreds of massage parlors or cantinas operating as fronts for human trafficking rings.
