Police: "Worst Case of Child Abuse They Have Seen."
A Louisiana couple is facing charges for what police say is "the worst case of child abuse they have ever seen."
25-year-old Jacob Zachary King and his wife, 18-year-old Mica Marie Etheridge-King were arrested Monday after a relative called police concerned about the 3-week old boy’s condition.
Webster police say when officers arrived at the motel where the family was staying; Jacob King refused to let them inside the room. When police were finally let inside, they immediately called for an ambulance.
The infant was rushed to Clear Lake Regional Medical Hospital, where doctors say a CT scan showed a severe brain hemorrhage and that the child suffered multisystem organ failure.
Officials said the child had a sore on his finger from where he had been chewing his hand from hunger, as well as stage 1 bedsores on his head and buttocks. They added that the baby had also been shaken.
The boy was listed in critical condition at Memorial Herman Hospital.
Police say when they asked about their baby's condition, the couple had no explanation.
Bonds for Jacob King and Mica Etheridge-King were each set at $50,000.
