A Houston Man Has Been Sentenced For Apple iPad And iPhone Fraud.
A Houston-area man has been sentenced to more than six years in prison for fraud related to about $200,000 worth of Apple iPads and iPhones.
A federal judge in Houston on Monday sentenced Sharif John Reid of League City. Reid in January pleaded guilty to aggravated identity theft and access device fraud. Reid must also pay nearly $158,000 in restitution.
Investigators say Reid was arrested last August in Houston when he tried to use a fake ID and a bogus credit card to buy products at an Apple store. The name on a credit card was linked to fraudulent sales at other Apple stores in Louisiana and Texas.
Prosecutors say Reid had used credit card numbers skimmed from an Austin business. Further details on the company were not released.
