Verna McClain to Remain Behind Bars.
A nurse accused of fatally shooting a young mother in suburban Houston to kidnap the woman's newborn son returned to court for a bond hearing. McClain was denied bond and she will be forced to remain behind bars.

A judge delayed Verna McClain's hearing until Monday to give court-appointed attorneys more time to review her case. The 30-year-old is currently being held in Montgomery County Jail without bond.

At her court appearance Thursday, McClain told the judge she understood she was facing a capital murder charge. Defense attorney E. Tay Bond has said McClain was confused and visibly upset and he was concerned about her mental state.

The Tuesday shooting occurred outside a pediatric center north of Houston. Twenty-eight-year-old Kala Golden was killed and her 3-day-old son abducted. Investigators believe McClain was desperate for a baby after suffering a miscarriage.
