Top 10 Wide Receivers:
NFL great Cris Carter of ESPN released his top 10 list for the best receivers in the league yesterday and let's just say he missed the mark. Somehow, he left Andre Johnson completely off the list in favor of guys like Percy Harvin and Steve Smith; just a complete joke.
So, here is my list of the top 10 receivers in the NFL; a more accurate list despite the fact that I've "never played the game." This list will be based on how good I think they are right now and does not take the next three to five years into account. Over the next three years, guys like A.J. Green and Julio Jones will at some point pass Andre Johnson.
1. Calvin Johnson - Detroit Lions
Two Year Average (2011-2012) - 109 rec, 1,822 yards, 10 TD. There should be no debate, he's the best receiver in the league by far.
2. Andre Johnson - Houston Texans
Has had three seasons each with 100+ catches and/or 1,500+ yards. Finished 4th in receptions and 2nd in yards last season.
3. A.J. Green - Cincinnati Bengals
Last year - 97 rec (7th), 1,350 yards (10th), 11 TD (4th)
4. Dez Bryant - Dallas Cowboys
Last year - 92 rec (10th), 1,382 yards (6th), 12 TD (3rd). Think of the numbers he could put up if he wasn't such a headcase.
5. Julio Jones - Atlanta Falcons
Last year - 79 rec, 1,198 yards, 10 TD. Those numbers w/ another Pro-Bowl receiver and tight end taking targets away.
6. Brandon Marshall - Chicago Bears
Last year - 118 rec (T-2nd), 1,508 yards (3rd), 11 TD (T-4th)
7. Demaryius Thomas - Denver Broncos
Last year - 94 rec (8th), 1,434 yards (4th), 10 TD (T-7th)
8. Larry Fitzgerald - Arizona Cardinals
Has fallen off in recent years so I have to drop him down, but most of his drop is due to very poor quarterback play. Between 2007-2009 averaged 98 receptions, 1,311 yards, and 12 touchdowns.
9. Roddy White - Atlanta Falcons
Last year - 92 rec (T-10th), 1,351 yards (9th)
10. Reggie Wayne - Indianapolis Colts
Last year - 106 rec (6th), 1,355 yards (7th)
Just missed the list: Wes Welker, Marques Colston
