Well, well! You listeners really are paying attention and subsequently interested in the deeper information. Last weekend I pointed out that many email-ers were asking about crabgrass and the varying forms of grassy weeds that may be mistaken for crabgrass. Last week's email tip was all about the grassy weeds that infiltrate our lawns and gardens in the stressful summer times like Crabgrass, Goosegrass, and Dallisgrass. But I got a whole new slew of emails this past week, argueing that what they have is not any of the aforementioned weeds.And they were right. The pictures didn't match a number of those inquiries. That's because there is another ‘grassy' weed that has reared its ugly head this summer as well as it did in the summer of '07. It's called Basketgrass. First and foremost, everything we talked about in the CRABGRASS CONTROL 101 TIPSHEET applies here as well. That also means that the Crabgrass-specific herbicide known as Garden Weasel A.G. And from the "Oh-By-The-Way" Department, this past weekend's program allowed us to remind everyone that we also covered Weed Control 101 practices earlier this year as well. So, if none of the grassy weeds or Basketgrass weeds that we talked about this week are the true problem, then there is a great chance that the myriad of Broadleaf weeds addressed in WEED CONTROL 101, are covered there as well.
Lastly, one of the more interesting aspects of doing GardenLine, all these years later, is seeing new problems crop up. As an example, when I first started doing GardenLine back in December of '95, Virginia Buttonweed was not a real problem. Now, it's a consistent and persistent weed that requires our attention regularly. I guess the same can be said for diseases, such as Take All Patch. While it was never known as much of problem just 10 years ago, we now know of its insidious nature. Basketgrass could very well be the latest.As with those maladies, we've eventually produced tip sheets in our weekly email tips and permanent website tip sheets to combat and control such trouble. Which I hope brings me to the ultimate message in this week's email tip.
