Have you had your trees professionally pruned your trees this winter? I know—WHAT WINTER?!?!?! Regardless, it’s still “that time of the year.” It’s probably hard for some people to think about major pruning jobs on big trees when, in fact, many fruit trees and other smaller ornamentals are growing like it’s springtime again.

The fact of the matter is, this is the time of the year to do the big pruning jobs on the larger trees in your landscape and it is something that should be done at least every few years. So, maybe another opportune question is: When is the last time you’ve had your trees pruned professionally?

Oddly enough, even though this is supposed to be a busy time for qualified tree companies, it’s still the best time for good deals as well. That’s because this is also one of the worst times of the year to ask people to dole out any more big bucks after all that holiday spending. So, that’s when tree companies who understand a little bit about marketing, offer their best deals of the year – especially on pruning and removal services.

We try not to highlight just one company or service in these email tips, so it would be a bit unfair to have all my email tip subscribers call just one company anyway. But I will tell you this: If you know the tree company of which I speak for on the radio, and you need your trees pruned, just tell them you want the “Internet Special” and I’m sure they will take care of you in a prompt manner. In the meantime, if you want to call around and get the best deal possible, please remember how important it is that they tree company have proof of insurance. I hear and read countless stories from folks just like you who thought they would save a buck or two by going with the lowest tree company bid in town. That’s almost always when they find out that they weren’t insured or bonded. Tree limbs break things all the time. Felled trees damage major structures all the time. It’s just a fact of life my friends. And if that uninsured tree company allows a limb to crash into the neighbor’s house, then you are on the hook for those damages. And trust me, I'm barely touching the horror stories I’ve heard over the years.

I know countless other stories about tree companies fleeing the job site, and being impossible to reach after such damage because they weren’t insured. The money’s gone, and the tree service is gone. And yet, you still have work that needs to be finished and insurance claims to make. Things that would have and should have been taken care of by a reputable tree company.

Just keep all this in mind when calling around this winter (I know – What Winter???) looking for the best deal on tree pruning or removal.
