rcwThis Saturday 11 a.m.-1 p.m., I'll be at RCW Nursery, 15809 Tomball Parkway at Beltway 8, and this will be the perfect opportunity for you to handle five very important things for this time of year.

  1. You can let me get a pair of eyes on that problem you've got. Bring your weeds, insects, sick plants, pictures or anything you need help identifying. Just remember to put everything in sealed plastic bags so you don't spread diseases or insects at the nursery. Events like this that follow the Saturday radio broadcast can be very helpful, and you should take advantage. By the way, my book "1001 GardenLine Questions" will be for sale as well.
  2. Despite the cooler weather, you shouldn't be deterred from the "early green-up" program recommended in my fertilization schedule. RCW will have plenty of the products I recommend in it on sale, including several of my suggested organic alternatives.
  3. Now is the time to build your vegetable garden and, in some instances, "cheat" Mother Nature a bit by getting transplants in the ground. So, RCW is essentially giving away an entire veggie garden to celebrate spring. They are including everything you need for a 100-square-foot garden, close to a $400 value. The winner will receive Bender Board (RCW's favorite edging) plus enough soil, fertilizer, plants and seeds to whip up one amazing patch. Assemble it in a sunny spot, plant and water. Then, just sit back and start dreaming of what you're going to cook. The only catch is that you MUST register in the store on Saturday ... the winner will be chosen at the end of the day. So, you must be present to enter, but not to win.
  4. As for vegetable foods, we'll have lots to give away from Nature's Guide just for the asking between 11 and 1, along with other great products while supplies last. Not only will we have their 4-3-2 tomato & pepper food, but some 3-5-3 natural rose food and even some of their natural root stimulator - one of the very few root stimulators I actually recommend, mainly because it's 100 percent organic.
  5. Hey, it's RCW Nursery, the original "get it, got it" nursery. "Get it" because they understand Houston gardening practices as well as anyone in town. And they've "got it" in stock, be it trees, azaleas, organic product or the proper fruit trees and citrus for this area.
