The beauty of Texas Culture is that it’s as diverse as it is big.  I’ve always viewed it like the sky on the horizon, endless with possibilities to experience.

Here’s one I’d like to share:  the annual sausage and strudel –making weekend with four generations of the Buering and Chaloupka families in Moulton, Texas.

Strudel is a German treat of apples, coconut, nuts and dried fruits, and sometimes chocolate or caramel bits, rolled inside layers of delicate, thin pastry and baked.

As for the sausage,  there’s debate in the Chaloupka tent, whether it’s made German-style or Bohemian
(Czech) –style.  The mixture of meats and seasonings are closely-held secrets of each individual.  Mine includes bison and is heavy on garlic and black pepper!

The process is here in the photos.  The experience?  Everyone lending a hand, whether to teach or
to learn and a lot of laughter and friendship, and multiple pounds of strudel
and sausage in the freezer for the coming months.
