Meet the Artists

Meet the Artists

It’s that time of year again for “Pongos Helping Pongos”.  Say what?

It’s the annual auction of art work by the Houston Zoo to help preserve orangutans in Southeast Asia.  You really should take a look.

I’ve posted some of the art from last year, and delightfully the artists.  They are orangutans, hence Pongos Helping Pongos (the scientific name for orangutans), with other zoo animals taking a hand too.  Well for some, it’s really finger painting.  Other “artists” use bamboo stalks, ginger leaves, some actually use a paint brush.

The big show and auction will be next week, April 10.  Make note.  The bidding might be fierce on this 10th anniversary of the effort.  Over this decade, the Houston Zoo artists have raised 200-thousand dollars to help preserve their animal friends, threatened in countries far, far away.
