Food for Thought

A favorite saying is “dance with who brung ya” and that applies in the case of Charles Butt.  If you don’t know the name, you’ll know the company H-E-B.

The family-named and run chain of grocery stores is a Texas success story and the legacy of that family is to pay it back to Texans by involvement in community.

Saturday night H-E-B honored Excellence in Education.  It was a banquet emceed by newsman Tom Brokaw.  But the stars were teachers and schools from across the state, honored with recognition and with checks. Houston’s KIPP Academy received a 50,000 dollar cash prize.

A teacher at A&M Consolidated of College Station won in the leadership category.  In total 430,000 dollars was given away and yes, Charles Butt was there to hand it over personally.

Dancing with who brung ya…..that’s food for thought.
