The bid by Georgia Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene to vacate House Speaker Mike Johnson has failed.

Greene triggered her motion on the House floor in a move that surprised many of her colleagues.

But her bluff was called immediately when House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La., rose to call for a vote on tabling Greene's motion – which effectively kills it before the vote on Johnson's ouster itself.

The vote was 359-43-7; 196 Republicans and 163 Democrats voted to table it, while 11 Republicans and 32 Democrats did not. 7 Democrats voted “present.”

Texas Republican Chip Roy voted to keep Greene’s effort going.

This was the second time in eight months that a motion to vacate was triggered. Kevin McCarthy was removed and eventually resigned from Congress.
