It’s only April, and ERCOT is warning of a possible issue with the electric grid next week.

The Texas grid operator issued what they call an Advance Action Notice.

“At 14:30, ERCOT issued an Advance Action notice due to a possible future Emergency Condition of reserve capacity deficiency beginning Monday April 29, 2024, HE 2000 through Wednesday May 1, 2024, HE 2100. ERCOT may Delay/Withdraw Approved or Accepted Resource Outages. ERCOT may seek up to 2,832 MW from an OAE and then make the OSA.”

As of Saturday afternoon, ERCOT says it is not seeking additional capacity.

This comes two weeks after ERCOT reportedly tookn steps to avoid a power grid emergency, asking power generators to stop previously scheduled maintenance because temperatures were in the upper 80s.

Power generators typically schedule maintenance for March and April, when temperatures are moderate.

Temperatures next week are forecast to be in the 80’s.
