Where are Immigrants Settling?

According to census bureau data from 2022, half of all foreign born people in the U.S. have become citizens, and moved to either Texas, Florida, California or New York.

Given the fact that that data is now two years old, we can assume that the percentage of foreign born people that have become citizens has gotten smaller, as Joe Biden continues to allow thousands of illegal aliens into the country. However, we can pretty safely assume that the trends of where immigrants settle are consistent.

This data makes it clear that immigrants into the U.S. look for one of two things, strong job markets, like in Texas and Florida, or states with a lot of handouts and benefit programs like in New York and California.

This is to be expected. What is unexpected is the fact that despite what democrats have predicted, as Texas and Florida's immigrant population grows, they haven't become blue states. In fact, the very opposite has occurred.

Steven Camarota with the Center for Immigration Studies says, this is because immigrants are more often shaped by the areas they settle in, rather then they shaping the area. He said, "It is true that immigrants differ by state. We know that Hispanic immigrants in Texas from surveys, tend to be more conservative than Hispanic immigrants in California.
