Abbott Takes On Tik Tok

Texas Governor Greg Abbott wants to shut down the social media site Tik Tok. He says it's being used by the cartels to facilitate the smuggling of illegal immigrants. "Just as I think an injunction was taken again Backpage, similarly, possibly, an injunction could be used to shut down Tik Tok," says Abbott.

He says state troopers have seen a string of posts on Tik Tok, where cartels are offering big bucks to those who help move migrants into the country. DPS Director Steve McCraw says they're catching kids from across the state, who come to South Texas, and work as drivers.

Backpage was shut down by federal authorities in 2018 after it was claimed the website was being used to promote prostitution. Lawsuits have continued, including against the wesbites relationship with Salesforce, raising the issue of the FCC's Section 230.
