Democrats Still Fighting GOP Presidential Election Audit Efforts

Democrats across the country continue to fight Republican efforts to audit the results of the 2020 Presidential Election. One of the biggest battlegrounds is in Arizona. Secretary of State Katie Hobbs, a Democrat, supports replacing all the voting machines in Maricopa County after they were checked in a GOP led audit.

County officials promised “never use equipment that could pose a risk to free and fair elections.” This quotation might sound confusing to some Conservatives, as the purpose of an audit is to determine if the election was conducted fairly.

“Audits are a routine way of reviewing the practices and procedures in the last election to make sure everything was done above board and the way it should,” Hans von Spakovsky, a legal expert at The Heritage Foundation, said. “It’s also a way of checking, for example, voting equipment.”

He says it would be reasonable for a county to call for an audit after every major election.

“The audits may come out and say ‘hey, there weren’t any problems, and everything was legitimate.’ Won’t that settle the whole issue?” von Spakovsky asked. “Those who oppose this audit seem to be afraid of what might be found.”

A nationwide survey by Rasmussen Reports finds more than half of likely American voters (55%) support audits of election results to ensure there was no fraud.
