Governor Abbott Proclaims this week Travel And Tourism Week In Texas

"Texas is a really robust state when it comes to tourism and how it affects the economic drivers in the state. Cities including Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth and San Antonio/Austin were doing very very well before the Covid lockdown last year." That's Kathleen Frankford of Texas Association of Convention and Visitor Bureaus.

Texas Tourism declined more than 31.% last year. Frankford says things are already looking up in Texas - much more than in still locked down states. Conventions and Professional Sports back in cities and State Parks, Beach Towns, rural towns with Hiking Trails are seeing more of bookings already.

Texas Hotel revenues were down over 5 billion dollars last year, but are picking up starting with Spring Break this year. Kathleen Frankford of Texas Association of Convention and Visitor Bureau says outdoor venues are booming as well because of people who were tired of staying at home.

"They want wide-open spaces, they don't want to be in a crowd, they want to find hiking places where they don't have to wear a mask, they want to feel safe in parks and other places where they can feel comfortable.
