Covid Vaccine Update: Houston Is Ready For Phase 1B

After nearly 140,000 healthcare workers received their first shots, it's now time for 'phase 1B' as the Covid vaccine rollout continues. Next up the 2nd wave for seniors 65 and older, along with anyone who is over 16 with at least one chronic medical condition. Starting today, CVS, Walgreens and Managed Health Care Associates will all begin administering vaccines at long-term care facilities in Texas. According to recent data, more than 70% of COVID-19-related deaths in Texas were people 65 years and older. Brett Giroir of the White House Corona Virus Task Force told FOX "it's going to vary state by state, but let me talk about Governor Abbott in Texas, he really is going to prioritize anyone over 65, because those are the people that go to the hospitals, not the 24 year old frontline worker." And according to the Texas Department Of State Health Services, roughly 27,000 nursing home residents need vaccine shots in Harris County. As for when everybody will be able to get the vaccine? Giroir said "We still expect that any American who wants a vaccine can be vaccinated by June! That's really very exciting." And Giroir closed out the interview by informing us that the safest place for kids right now? Is in school.
