Two Former Houston Oilers Have Died

Kicker Tom Dempsey and Coach Ed Biles have passed away this weekend, Dempsey from Covid 19 and Biles from leukemia.

Demsey died Saturday in New Orleans, where as a kicker for the Saints in 1970 Dempsey set the record for the longest field goal at 63 yards. Demsey was living in a senior facility and had been quarantined since a March 25 diagnosis. Dempsey was 73.

Biles was defensive coordinator under Head Coach Bum Phillips, brought to Houston in 1974 and leading the defense in the legendary Luv Ya Blue era. Biles replaced Phillips after the 1980 season. He had been living in Houston as an active member of the community. Ed Biles died in Houston this morning.
