Plant explosion rocks Port Neches; three injuries reported so far

An explosion at a chemical plant rocked Jefferson County overnight, blowing out windows and rattling houses for miles.

An explosion at the TPC plant in Port Neches lit up the sky around 1 o'clock this morning. Eyewitnesses reported there was a second blast shortly after.

A mandatory evacuation is in effect for residents within a half-mile of the TPC Group Plant in Port Neches according to a post on the Nederland Volunteer Fire Department's Facebook page.

Jefferson County Judge Jeff Branick told a local TV station that there are no fatalities and only three injuries that he knows of.

“We’re thankful. That’s amazing the way it looks out here," he said.

The American Red Cross has set up a shelter at the First Baptist Church in Port Neches.
