Updating Your Home for Fun and Profit

If you're getting ready to sell your home --- you'll probably make some improvements before you put the sign out. Home Improvement expert Jim Dutton says the top three projects are cement-type siding on the outside and re-doing the kitchen and bathroom. He says people who are house shopping are looking for granite counter tops and definitely NOT a green or pink bath tub! The siding (see the picture below) adds so much curb appeal to any home and certainly "modernizes" an older home that might have been showing some wear and tear. Dutton cautions you that you might not get your investment back in these improvement 100% - but you stand a much better chance of getting a good price and selling your home more quickly.

If you're upgrading your home just for your own pleasure, Dutton advises, "Paint your walls and replace your floors - whether it's new carpet or wood. This is because these are the first things you notice when you enter your home and they can either make you happy or stick out like a sore thumb."

You can hear Jim Dutton and Texas Home Improvement every Saturday and Sunday afternoon on newsradio 740 KTRH.
