Houston Strong with help from J.J. Watt

Houston Texans v Dallas Cowboys

It was two years ago last Tuesday that Texans defensive star J.J. Watt began the largest crowd-sourced fundraiser in history to help his adopted home recover from the worst flooding disaster in U.S. history.

The Justin J. Watt Foundation raised $41.6 million for Hurricane Harvey relief. It was distributed through eight area non-profits, including All Hands and Hearts, Americares, Boys & Girls Clubs, Baker Ripley, Habitat for Humanity and others.

In a report released this week, J.J. provided an update on what was accomplished with the combined generosity of Americans and a devoted defensive end professional football player.

Almost 12-hundred homes have been repaired or rebuilt along with more than 970 childcare centers.

Watt also says 239-million meals have been handed out and 337-thousand prescriptions for low-income patients have been filled.

He thank supporters in a tweet:

"None of this would have been possible without your generosity. Thank you for continuing to shine a light on the beauty of the human spirit. #HoustonStrong."
