Retire for under $30k out of the country, but on the beach

A new report by International Living finds five beach destinations...in Columbia, Mexico, Portugal, Costa Rica and Panama...you can live out your retirement on less than $30,000 a year.

"50 Plus" host Doug Pike said it's possible to live off $2,000 a month, be prepared to lower your expectations and lifestyle. This means living like the locals—small apartment, getting places on foot and living modestly.

"You better stay healthy, you better learn to walk a lot of places that you're going to need to go and you better make sure somebody studies your tax obligations before you leave town," said Pike.

He added to look at the healthcare situation out of America.

"If you're living on $2,000 a month and your making $2,400-$2,500 in Social Security, that's all you've got is a few hundred dollars a month to devote to healthcare. And, if they don't have Universal care for nothing for displaced citizens from the United States, you have no healthcare," said Pike.

According to International Living:

  1. Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica
  2. Lagos, Portugal
  3. Akumal, Mexico
  4. Volcan, Panama
  5. Medellin, Colombia
