Lightning strike causes fires; two Sheriff's Deputies taken to hospital

Fire officials say lightning strikes this morning have caused at least two house fires in north Harris County, as a line of storms moved through the Houston area. One of those fires sent two Harris County Sheriff's Deputies to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

Crews are battling a fire at a home in the 100 block of West Valera Ridge Place near The Woodlands in northwest Harris County.

Elsewhere, there was a report of a house fire caused by a lightning strike in the 17300 block of Kiowa River Lane, according to the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office.

The Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department was responding to that scene. Before they got there, two deputies entered the house to check if any residents were inside. The fire marshal says they were transported to a local hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

The sheriff's office says the two deputies were alert and talking and were transported as a precaution.
