'Party of Five' Gets A Politically Charged Reboot

The latest 90s TV show to get rebooted is Party of Five on Freeform. Unlike Will & Grace, Roseanne (now The Conners), and Murphy Brown, this reboot isn't bringing back the original cast. While the original series focused on the Salinger siblings fending for themselves after losing both parents in a car accident, the new show tells the story of the Acosta children struggling to make it as a family unit after their parents are deported to Mexico. According to Entertainment Weekly, the ripped-from-the-headlines immigration and family separation story elements are intended to give the project contemporary resonance. The original Party of Five ran on FOX from 1994 to 2000 and starred Scott Wolf, Matthew Fox, Neve Campbell, and Lacey Chabert as Bailey, Charlie, Julia, and Claudia Salinger. The new show features new faces Brandon Larracuente, Emily Tosta, Niko Guardado, and Elle Paris Legaspi.

No official word on when Freeform's Party of Five will debut.
