Texas Senator John Cornyn, along with Democratic Congressman Henry Cuellar, introduce the HUMANE Act earlier this morning. Cornyn says the bill would reform current laws and streamline processing for those looking for asylum. He also says this would be a deterrent.
“If you are thinking about sending thousands to a human smuggler, that money will not be well spent. You won’t be able to stay here,” Cornyn said.
Cornyn added it was important to reach across the aisle on something like this.
“We don’t hear too many other solutions. That’s what prompted us to come together,” Cornyn explained.
The bill would also boost the number of border patrol officers and update facilities to handle the people coming in.
